How to help your teen be a better driver

Aug 25

As Robin Thompson left her job as a school nurse in Atlanta, Ga., she waited for the customary call from her 16-year-old daughter, Ashley, telling her she was home from school.

The call never came.

“As I neared our home I saw a road block. Police and rescue workers were everywhere and a car that looked all too familiar was wrapped around a tree,” Robin Thompson wrote on the website SafeTeenDrivingClub.org. She founded the organization after Ashley’s 2003 death in a single-car accident that did not involve drinking or distractions from friends or a cell phone. “In a split second, on a sunny June afternoon, my world as I knew it ended.”

Almost 14 young people die in preventable car crashes every day–or 5,000 a year–and another 300,000 teens are injured in auto accidents–or 822 daily–according to Allstate Insurance Company.

On the Arrive Alive website we have given much attention to the dangers of impaired driving! Too many fatal accidents have been caused by intoxicated drivers. Many more of these accidents are fortunately not fatal but have lead to car insurance claims– and could have been prevented were it not for the reduced driver reactions as a result of intoxicated driving.

Many visitors to the car insurance blog have enquired about accidents caused by drunk driving – and asked the question whether car insurance companies will settle these claims.

The truth is that a car insurance claim will not be settled if there is proof that the driver has been drunk.

A car insurance policyholder should be aware that he is obliged under the car insurance policy to operate the vehicle within the Rules of the Road. If

Aug 21

Parents are trying to make the ends meet for getting insurance cover for their young drivers. The situation has been created due to the denial of the companies to offer any cover for the drivers under the age of 21 years. Even if they offer a policy, these young drivers are charged abnormally high prices for enabling them to drive the family cars. The good news is that a refreshing wave of insurance policy has turned the direction of the winds providing a much better and economical alternative.

A leading insurance company in the UK has recently launched a learner driver policy, which is available online, in cooperation with a specialist insurance company offering policies to the young drivers. This will cost about £96.50 for 28 days for a comprehensive cover.

Which makes of vehicles are more likely to be stolen in South Africa?

Aug 18

Are you going to be the more likely victim of vehicle theft than the guy next door just because you have a specific vehicle? What would make the vehicle thief decide to rather take your vehicle than that of the other bloke?

I have come across an interesting story in Rapport Newspaper in which it was revealed that two Toyota brands, the Hilux and Fortuner vehicles have been identified as the most sought after by vehicle thieves. A Toyota spokesperson has confirmed that this has come to their attention and that the giant motor manufacturer is working closely with the security industry and the police services in assisting vehicle owners to combat vehicle theft.

Toyota comments on vehicle theft statistics

Toyota however cautions on making a simplistic assumption from the facts and statistics – and cautions that as the motor manufacturer with the largest market share – it is most possible that vehicle theft might also tend to reflect this market share.

Historically these revelations do not come as much of a surprise. The
